St James’s takes part in Belfast Feis
On Saturday morning the annual Feis Bhéal Feirste (Belfast Feis) took place in John the Baptist Primary School. The competition aims to promote the Irish Language in English speaking primary schools and is divided into two parts: conversation (cómhra) and poetry (filíocht).
I have greatly enjoyed taking an after school Irish Club (An Cumann Gaelach) this term for children in Year 6 and Year 7 and was hopeful that we may enter the Feis.
Esmé Sayers came bravely forward and represented the school in the competition. She competed in a group of 20,with children from a number of other schools. Most of the others have been learning Irish for a few years. I am so proud of Esme for taking part and representing our school. She won a silver medal for Irish Conversation.
Comhghairdeas!
